2011 NHL Draft Targets

Draft Targets

Round 1 pick 14
***** Oscar Klefbom LD
Oscars been all over the place on rankings lately. He is another big and mobile dman with a big shot from the point, which is something the Stars have really been lacking. Likes to hit but may chase them at times. His defensive play and hockey sense have been questioned.

***** Jamie Oleksiak  LD
6'7 240 defenseman who is an intimidating presence and skates well for a player his size. His offensive game might be questionable but the upside is there. His combination of size and mobility should make for a very good defensive dman if his offense does not translate.

***** Mark McNeil RC
This guy has 2nd line center written all over him. Good size and skating for this big physical center, which is something the Stars have been lacking for quite some time. Theres a definite need at C throughout the lower systems and McNeil would go a long way to improve it.

***** Mika Zibanejad  RC
A lighter version of McNeil with perhaps better offensive upside. Has a great chance to go top 10. If he falls to Dallas there should be little hesitation to take him.

***** Jonas Brodin LD
Brodin isnt big or particularly offensive, but what he is is very smart and skilled. He thinks the game very well and that could lead to a huge step up in the future. Great skater with tremendous agility.

***** Joel Armia RW
Big skilled RW with a wicked shot and great hands. His play away from the puck is said to leave alot to be
desired. High end potential sniper.
***** Connor Murphy RD
Big two-way dman with NHL dna. The big question mark here is his health. He's also said to have a big shot and has good offensive upside.

***** Scott Mayfield RD
6'5 dman who has alot of filling out to do but should become an imposing blueliner. Hes got great wheels and a big shot. His poor offensive output this season might have him slipping, but he brings alot of upside on both sides of the ice.

**** Nathan Beaulieu LD
Great skater with tremendous offensive ability. Needs to fill out and be more physical. His hockey sense has been questioned at times.
**** Rocco Grimaldi  RC
5'6 Center who is one of the most skilled players in the draft. This is another player who is sort of all over the place rankings wise. If he can overcome his obvious size issue he can become a great NHL center. Its all
about risk/reward with Rocco.
**** Mark Scheifele RC
Skilled center with good size and offensive upside. Not very strong so he can be pushed off the puck with
ease.

**** Duncan Siemans LD
Big and mobile and mean. He seems relatively safe and does have some skills but his puck handling abilities and decision making have been questioned.

**** JT Miller       LC
Great skating all around Center who only recently looks like he can combine all his assets to become a great player.

*** Matt Puempel LW
Yeah I know LW. With the trade of Neal the Stars really aren't that deep at impact LW, especially if Benn ends up at Center. Peumpel has been called the Skinner of this draft class as his ability to find the back of the net is very impressive.

Round 2 Pick 44
*** Ryan Sproul RD
Another big defenseman who can skate and has a great shot. Not likely to make it to 44

*** Johan Sundstrom RC
Good size. Defensively responsible center who needs to develop his offensive skills and skating.

*** Collin Jacobs RC
Good skating center from Texas. Good skill but questionable hockey sense.

*** Stefan Noesson        LW
Gritty winger from Texas. Great shot and good north south skater but not incredibly creative.

*** Victor Rask LC
Great size and skill but doesn't seem to use it well. Once cnnsidered a top 10 pick hes really sliding down the rankings.

*** Myles Bell        RD
Obviously hes got some problems that basically eliminate him. Maybe if you think hes going to be healthy you spend a 6th or 7th on a kid with tremendous upside. He's built like a fir ehydrant and has great offensive flair.

*** Daniel Catenacci LC
Amazing speed. Perhaps the fastest in the draft. Great two-way ability with questionable size and perhaps not the best hands.

*** Shane McColgan RW
Small winger who has seen his draft stock plummet as he was once considered a top 10 pick. He may well last into the mid rounds at this point. Still he's another guy with great upside.

*** Joe Morrow LD
Solid two-way defenseman who could go in the first round. Good passer with a great shot.

*** Seth Ambroz RW
Big winger whos stock has plummeted. Seems to have skating and compete issues. Alot of skill so if someone feels like they can motivate him he'd be a solid prospect to pick up.

*** Robbie Russo RD
Small defenseman with great skating and offensive skills. A little too passive at times.

** Adam Clendening RD
Highly skilled but small dman who is not a great skater for his size. Great passer.

** Michael Paliotta        RD
Good size and skating but more of a positional defenseman without alot of offensive upside.

** Joseph Labatte LC
Long term project with great upside. Big center with a great shot.

** Reece Scarlett RD
Mobile defenseman who needs to work on strength and timing.

** Mike Mckee LD
Massive defenseman who can skate. Very mean and tough to play against but not a great decision maker.
